Recent advances in regenerative (restoration and growth) medicine have led to the development of PRP which stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. We use a system called ACP PRP(Autologous Conditioned Plasma), which unlike other PRP systems, doesn’t concentrate the white blood cells reducing the detrimental effect of degradative proteins.

What Is Platlet-Rich Plasma (PRP) ?

PRP is the concentration of platelets derived from the plasma of your own blood. Platelets are widely known to play a large role in clotting processes, their use in treatment of skin rejuvenation is due to their abundance of enzymes and growth factors creating the healing process. The top layers of the skin tissues are injected with PRP to receive the nutrients needed to stimulate repair. An injection of PRP to the skin tissues heals and rejuvenates with growth factors. The injection can also restart a healing inflammatory process, which is why we also use it after laser treatments to reduce the healing time and guard against after treatment pigmentation.

What does the PRP procedure involve ?

PRP begins by collecting blood by using a syringe and needle in the arm, similar to a clinic laboratory blood draw. The amount of blood needed is determined by the size of the area to be treated and the concentration of platelets desired. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge where the rapid spinning process separates the blood into 3 components—the plasma or water portion of the blood, the PRP layer, and the cellular layer containing red and white blood cells. The PRP layer that contains the growth factors and enzymes for healing and rejuvenation is then injected into the areas being treated, this may be the face, neck, decollate, or any part of the body in need of rejuvenation. We apply a topical local anaesthetic (numbing cream) to the site of the injections, before PRP is injected into the skin, sometimes we use a derma roller to penetrate the deeper layers.

What is the Derma Roller System?
